Menorca kid 'traumatized' by dad's arrest

The child of former Iglesia ni Cristo minister Lowell Menorca was traumatized after witnessing his arrest on Wednesday morning, Menorca's wife Jingky said Thursday.

In a press conference, Jingky became emotional as she narrated their two-year-old child's behavior following the arrest, which she described as "overkill."

She said their child may have to undergo therapy to recover from the experience.

Jingky said their child also witnessed how they were allegedly kidnapped by Iglesia ni Cristo members in Sorsogon, where her husband was studying to be a minister, in July last year.

"Medyo nakaka-recover na po siya, tapos nakita na naman niya 'yung nangyari kahapon," she said.

Menorca was arrested in connection with a libel case while on his way to the Court of Appeals to attend a hearing on the petition for writs of habeas corpus and amparo his family filed against Iglesia ni Cristo leaders, including its executive minister, Eduardo Manalo.

Jingky has accused the group's leaders of abducting them in Sorsogon and illegally detaining them at the group's compound in Quezon City. She said Wednesday's incident reminded them of that episode.

"Iniisip ko pa talaga ki-kidnapin nila ulit kami, ki-kidnapin nila ulit 'yung asawa ko. Bilang asawa po, ipinagtatanggol ko lang 'yung asawa ko lalo na 'yung anak ko po, 'yung anak namin," she said.

At the press briefing, Jingky said they are expecting a slew of other charges to be filed against her husband, but added that they will not back down from them.

She noted they are receiving many assistance, possibly including from active Iglesia ni Cristo members.

She said they are also mulling filing countercharges against the police who arrested her husband.

"Pinaplano na po ng mga abugado namin, tinitignan kung anu-ano ang mga puwedeng isampang kaso laban sa kanila," Jingky said. —KBK, GMA News
