MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) has junked the criminal cases against top leaders of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).

The complaints were separately filed by expelled INC minister Isaias Samson Jr. and expelled INC member Jose Fruto.

The DOJ did not find probable cause to charge the INC officials in court for the offenses alleged by complainants.

Samson and Fruto, in their separate complaints, claimed that they were held by the INC against their will because of their supposed exposes against the church.

A massive protest that blocked parts of EDSA was held after Samson submitted his complaint before the DOJ in August.

Samson said he and his family were detained due to suspicions that he was the blogger Antonio Ebanghelista who wrote damaging allegations against the sect.

Fruto, meantime, claimed he earned the ire of the sect after supporting Angel Manalo, brother of INC Executive Minister Eduardo Manalo.

The INC has consistently denied the charges and allegations against them, stressing that all these are part of a ploy to cause disunity among members of the church.
