MANILA - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ricardo Marquez on Friday denied the allegation that about 100 cops are deployed in the central compound of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in Quezon City. Marquez also dismissed the challenge of expelled INC minister Lowell Menorca to inspect the church's compound. Menorca has claimed that police vehicles of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) are parked beside the Pasugo Building behind the Engineering Department. "Galing na doon at the heart of the issue ng Iglesia, three months ago, nagpunta na doon si former district director Joel Pagdilao kasama ang media. Anong gusto niya ipa-inspect? So hinihintay namin siya kung gusto niya mag-file ng complain," Marquez said. "Pero kung ang tinutukoy niya ay yung sinasabing may 100 police strong contingent, wala kaming ganoong deployment sa INC," the top police official added. The QCPD has also denied having a police detachment inside the INC's central compound. The religious sect, likewise, denied Menorca's accusation. The PNP chief also urged Menorca to "substantiate" his claims that members of the QCPD were among those who allegedly abducted him. Menorca surfaced last October 23 after being allegedly illegally detained at the INC central compound from July 25 to October 21. The former INC minister said his interview aired on Net 25 where he denied that he was detained was scripted. "Gusto namin i-substantiate niya kasi usapan lang sa media eh. Eh ang pulis nag-iimbestiga kami, pero we would like him to come forward to substantiate his claim kasi one point in time sabi niya hindi siya in-abduct, ngayon in-abduct na uli siya, so we would like him to substantiate his claims. Kaya hinihintay namin siya," said Marquez. "In-alert namin yung CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group) na they will come forward kasi during the height of that problem, sinabi niya lang na yung asawa niya pupunta sa CIDG to subsantitate their complain pero hindi naman dumating. Open pa rin ang CIDG kung sino man may balak na magreklamo." -- Report from Chai Tabunanay, ABS-CBN News Socsksargen
