Couple says Menorca is holding their daughter captive; Menorca's lawyer disputes the charge

Candido Yanzon Jr. and his wife Roselie Yanzon, both Iglesia Ni Cristo members, have alleged that their daughter, Abegail, is being held against her will by former INC minister Lowell Menorca, GMA News has reported.

The Yanzons made their public appeal during a news conference held on Friday at the offices of the Eagle Broadcasting Corporation, a media unit of the INC.

Responding to the Yanzon's allegations, Atty. Trixie Angeles, counsel of Menorca, said Abegail Yanzon was among the people law enforcers rescued,together with Menorca.

Menorca has said that he was an INC captive for three months because he was suspected of being among those behind efforts to attack the INC from the inside.

The Yanzons said Menorca took their daughter last July 16. The mother said her daughter noticed changes in how Menorca behaved and that her daughter was being used as a witness against the INC.

INC officials were not with the Yanzons during their news briefing.

Menorca and his counsel said the Courts of Appeals will convene next Tuesday to hear their habeas corpus petition against the INC.

The writ of habeas corpus, when issued by a court, compels the respondent or respondents to literally produce and present before the court, the physical body of a person alleged to be in illegal detention. — ELR, GMA News
