Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) spokesman Edwil Zabala said INC leadership will continue to face baseless speculation and reckless accusations with dignity.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) spokesman Edwil Zabala appealed to members of the church on Wednesday (October 28) to remain calm amid reports of police presence within its central office in Quezon City.

Broadsheet Philippine Star in an article quoted a military official saying the INC had been employing the services of policemen since the Marcos regime.

It was also reported that the number of policemen deployed inside the INC compound had increased to a hundred over the years.

INC spokesman Edwil Zabala, in a text message to CNN Philippines, neither denied nor confirmed the report.

Instead, he said the church leadership will continue to face baseless speculation and reckless accusations with dignity and full confidence in the justice system.

Zabala also appealed to Filipinos for objectivity and understanding.

Leaders of the INC are facing allegations of illegally detaining former church ministers like Isaias Samson Jr. and Lowell Menorca II, together with their families.

The issue has reached the Supreme Court through a petition for habeas corpus and amparo filed by Menorca's relatives, who made his allegations public over the weekend.

The case was remanded to the Court of Appeals which is expected to hold its first hearing on the case next Monday (November 2).
