MANILA - The former Iglesia ni Cristo minister who has accused some of the sect's leaders of illegally detaining him on suspicion he was among those spreading stories about them has surfaced, and said he is ready to file charges in court. Accompanied by lawyer Trixie Angeles, Lowell Menorca narrated his ordeal since the time he said he was seized from their house in Sorsogon, and ended up being detained by police in Cavite on what he called a trumped-up case of illegal possession of hand grenade. He said members of the influential Sanggunian or supreme council had caused his subsequent transfer to the INC compound in Quezon City, where, he said, he was detained for 17 hours. He said he bargained for an assurance that his family would not be harmed and will admit any false accusation they make.
An earlier TV interview he did in another network, where he cleared the Council leaders, was staged, he said, in order to make credible his interview with the Iglesia-owned Net 25 TV station. He said his personal belongings remain with the INC leaders, including gadgets that were subjected to forensics as he was suspected of being among those leaking stories on the sect to the press.
