Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Supreme Court has issued writs of amparo and habeas corpus for former Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) minister Lowell Menorca and his family over their alleged detention at the INC Central Compound.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno issued the resolution, which also requires respondents Eduardo Manalo and other INC leaders to appear before the Court of Appeals (CA) and "produce" Lowell Menorca and his family at 10 a.m. on November 3.
The high court remands the case to the appellate court to hear it and decide on it within 10 days after its submission.
Sereno acted on the petition based on the recommendation of the member-in-charge while the justices are on break.
Anthony Menorca filed the petition Wednesday on his brother's behalf. He was also joined by the sister of Lowell's wife.
According to Anthony Menorca, his brother and his brother's family have been not allowed to leave the INC compound up to this day and are constantly surrounded by guards.
